About this Sermon |
At the end of Mark 8 and the beginning of Mark 9, we rapidly read through three different scenes with Jesus and his disciples. First, Peter accurately declares that Jesus is Messiah, the Anointed One. Then, Jesus comments on how he must suffer and be rejected and die before rising again on the third day, the first passion prediction made in Mark’s Gospel. Finally, Jesus takes Peter, James & John up on a mountain, where Jesus is transfigured and starts chatting with Moses & Elijah. Confusing is not only a great word that explains how the disciples must have been feeling, it also accurately represents how many of us have been feeling recently with the spread of COVID-19. But how do we respond as individuals in times of confusion? And how are we called to respond, as those trying to follow Jesus? How do we show others that we love them in the days of a pandemic?
