About this Sermon |

Genesis 2:4-25
In Genesis 2, we hear the story of how God created man and woman, a gift of love and acceptance and community for one another. How have you seen others generously give acceptance? From whom have you received that same kind of gracious acceptance? And to whom are you being called to now extend that same genuine acceptance?

About this Series |

Who has shaped your faith? Who has nurtured you, baptized you, taught you, transformed you? Who are the figures who have opened your mind to expand your faith? Who are the people who have helped you to feel God’s love in startling ways? Who are the faces of your faith? This summer we’re digging deep into bold and untold stories of those often overlooked in our biblical narratives, hoping these characters remind us that we all play a role in shaping God’s story of redemption and grace.*

Prelude – “How Great Thou Art” – Melanie Manges, organ

Welcome to Worship – Sylvia Mohler

Hymn of Praise  “This is My Father’s World” – Worship Team

(Verse 1) This is my Father’s world, and to my listening ears,
All nature sings, and round me rings the music of the spheres.
This is my Father’s world: I rest me in the thought
Of rocks and trees, of skies and seas- his hand the wonders wrought.

(Verse 2) This is our Father’s world: O let us not forget
That though the wrong is great and strong, God is the ruler yet.
He trusts us with his world, to keep it clean and fair-
All earth and trees, all skies and seas, all creatures everywhere.

(Verse 3) This is my Father’s world: he shines in all that’s fair;
In the rustling grass I hear him pass, he speaks to me everywhere.
This is my Father’s world: why should my heart be sad?
The Lord is King, let heaven ring! God reigns; let earth be glad!

Call to Worship* – Sylvia Mohler

The words God speaks
are the life and sustenance of all that exists.
The life Jesus gives
is the re-creation and renewed birth of all that is broken and worn.
The Spirit’s stirring in our souls
is the inspiration for creativity, compassion, joy, and community.

Life-giving, life-restoring, life-fulfilling God;
may our whole lives be worship.
In all things, may we seek to connect with
and to reflect your love and your hope. Amen.

Hymn of Reflection – “How Great Thou Art” – Worship Team

(Verse 1) O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds thy hands have made,
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, thy power throughout the universe displayed.

(Refrain) Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee:
How great thou art, how great thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee:
How great thou art, how great thou art!

(Verse 2) When through the woods and forest glades I wander,
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees,
When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur,
and hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze.

(Refrain) Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee:
How great thou art, how great thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee:
How great thou art, how great thou art!

Hymn of Hope – “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands”

(Verse 1) He’s got the whole world in his hands,
He’s got the whole world in his hands,
He’s got the whole world in his hands,
He’s got the whole world in his hands.

(Verse 2) He’s got the wind and the rain in his hands,
He’s got the wind and the rain in his hands,
He’s got the wind and the rain in his hands,
He’s got the whole world in his hands.

(Verse 3) He’s got the tiny little baby in his hands,
He’s got the tiny little baby in his hands,
He’s got the tiny little baby in his hands,
He’s got the whole world in his hands.

(Verse 4) He’s got you and me, brother, in his hands,
He’s got you and me, sister, in his hands,
He’s got all of us together in his hands,
He’s got the whole world in his hands.

Offering Rev. Hood

Almighty God, giver of every good and perfect gift,
Teach us to give to you all that we have and all that we are,
That we might praise you not with our words only,
But with our whole lives. Amen.
