Hi, y’all. I have served as pastor of FBC Lafayette since May 2017. Before arriving in Indiana, I served in several congregations in North Carolina and Tennessee, and in many other kinds of ministries in Texas & Georgia. I’ve worked with college students, children and teenagers both within churches as well as in other capacities. I grew up mainly in the Augusta, Georgia area (I’m an Air Force brat!), and if you really parse where people are from, I am culturally a native of the Lowcountry of South Carolina (think: the greater Charleston area). I’m a graduate of the Grady College of Journalism & Mass Communications at the University of Georgia (Athens, Georgia) and Truett Theological Seminary at Baylor University (Waco, Texas). I was ordained to the ministry by the very first church that hired me as Minister to University Students: FBC Knoxville, Tennessee. I am married to a Crawfordsville-native, Matt Hood, and we have a beautiful, fun-loving little boy named Oliver.
As a pastor, I am passionate about helping other people to understand Scripture better, and talking to people about what their relationship with God really looks like. I believe that asking hard questions and expressing our fears and doubts are really important, and I try to make room for those kinds of things within the church. I also believe that we were all given the ability to be creative, and I think church is even more fun when we allow our creativity to enmesh with our lives of faith.
For fun, I really love crafting and home decor projects, baking, and relaxing in cozy coffee shops. I am a self-diagnosed re-reader of fiction (do you have a new suggestion for me???), and I really enjoy the freedom of an afternoon out on the lake. I’m coming to terms with the coldness of the winters here and I miss being able to get sweet tea whenever I want it, but it has been a joy to be living in a community with such a wealth of resources and opportunities. I am excited to be part of one such opportunity since moving to Indiana: I will be part of the 2019-2020 cohort of the Wabash Pastoral Leadership Program, a Lily Endowment program.
Thanks for stopping by, and I hope to meet you real soon.
