Central Catholic Ecumenism Field Trip w stop at First Baptist

May 2 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

My name is Adam Lindemer, and I teach Theology to 10th and 12th-grade students at Central Catholic High School in Lafayette, Indiana. I’m reaching out because our senior spring curriculum is dedicated to exploring ecumenism and fostering dialogue among Christian traditions.

The Catholic Church has always believed in the importance of ecumenical and interreligious dialogue, as Christ himself prayed “that they may all be one” (John 17:21). In that same spirit, our goal is to provide students with meaningful opportunities to engage with other Christian communities, not to debate or convert, but to foster mutual understanding, respect, and a greater sense of unity among the faithful through charitable and genuine conversations.

I would like to kindly ask if you would be open to welcoming my students to your church for a brief tour and a Q&A session. The visit would offer my students an opportunity to learn more about your community’s history, beliefs, and practices while also giving them a chance to ask respectful, thoughtful questions about our shared faith and differences. Any questions would be workshopped in class, pre-approved by me, and then mutually agreed upon to ensure they are appropriate and productive – no “gotchas” or surprises. This initiative is not about proselytizing in any direction, but rather about helping students deepen their understanding of the Christian faith and the importance of unity.
