About this Sermon |

In John 21: 1-14, we find a story where Simon Peter & several other disciples to return to a familiar rhythm:  they go fishing.  Jesus encounters them on the lakeshore, realizing they’ve caught nothing after an entire night of fishing.  After suggesting they try again on the other side, the disciples catch an abundance of fish, so heavy they can’t even pull the net back into the boat.  What does this show us about who Jesus is, and how can we live with a sense of the abundance we are offered in Christ?

Gathering Song – “He is Lord”  #305

He is Lord, He is Lord, He is risen from the dead and He is Lord.
Every knee shall bow, every tongue confess, that Jesus Christ is Lord! (repeat)

Call to Worshipliturgy written by Rev. Mindi Welton-Mitchell

We are the church. We join our hearts together. We listen for the word of God through scripture. We feel each other’s joy and sorrow as we share in prayer together. Today, we will break bread together, and remember we are one, Though we cannot be together; we are the church, And we gather across time and space to worship God now.

Hymn of Proclamation“Come, Let Us Praise the Lord”     #9

  1. Come, let us praise the Lord, with joy our God acclaim,
    His greatness tell abroad and bless his saving name.
    Lift high your songs before his throne to whom alone all praise belongs.
  1. In worship bow the knee, our glorious God confess;
    The great Creator, he the Lord of Righteousness.
    He reigns unseen: his flock he feeds and gently leads in pastures green.

Invitation to Prayer

Pastoral Prayer & The Lord’s Prayer Rev. Hood

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name,
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, in earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

Hymn of the Table “Come, Share the Lord”  #696

  1. 1. We gather here in Jesus’ name,
    his love is burning in our hearts like living flame;
    For through his loving Son the father makes us one:
    Come, take the bread, come drink the wine, come, share the Lord.
    (Bridge) No one is a stranger here, everyone belongs,
    Finding our forgiveness here, we in turn forgive all wrongs.
  2. He joins us here, he breaks the bread,
    the Lord who pours the cup is risen from the dead;
    The one we love the most is now our gracious host:
    Come, take the bread, come drink the wine, come, share the Lord.
