About this Sermon |

Numbers 27:1-11
In Numbers 27, we meet the five daughters of Zelophedad, who are petitioning Moses, Eleazar, and the entire congregation to consider their situation: their father died in the wilderness journey, and since he had no sons, there has been no provision made for their welfare. They are not able to receive an inheritance, and these five daughters are asking for a change to be made. To the law. The law handed down by God to Moses. How do you react to change? Who has taught you to demand change with courage, as these five daughters do?

About this Series |

Who has shaped your faith? Who has nurtured you, baptized you, taught you, transformed you? Who are the figures who have opened your mind to expand your faith? Who are the people who have helped you to feel God’s love in startling ways? Who are the faces of your faith? This summer we’re digging deep into bold and untold stories of those often overlooked in our biblical narratives, hoping these characters remind us that we all play a role in shaping God’s story of redemption and grace.*

Welcome to Worship – Shawn Huddy

Hymn of Praise  “God of Our Father, Whose Almighty Hand”

(Verse 1) God of our Fathers, whose almighty hand
Leads forth in beauty all the starry band
Of shining worlds in splendor through the skies,
Our grateful songs before your throne arise.

(Verse 2) Your love divine has led us in the past,
In this free land by you our lot is cast;
Be now our ruler, guardian, guide and stay,
Your Word our law, your paths our chosen way.

(Verse 4) Refresh your people on their toilsome way,
Lead us from night to never-ending day;
Fill all our lives with heaven-born love and grace,
And songs of praise we’ll lift before your face!

Call to Worship* (inspired by Psalm 107) – Shawn Huddy

God’s faithful love endures for ever and ever.
Because of God’s everlasting goodness,
we offer God our thanks and praise.
God’s faithful love endures for ever and ever.
Because of God’s care and concern for humanity,
we offer God our thanks and praise.
God’s faithful love endures for ever and ever.
Because of God’s transforming powers and actions,
we gather as a community of faith and trust in God—
and we offer God our thanks and praise. Amen.

Hymn of Reflection – “Great is Thy Faithfulness”

(Verse 1) Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father,
There is no shadow of turning with thee;
Thou changest not, thy compassions they fail not;
As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be.

(Refrain) Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning, new mercies I see;
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided-
great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me!

(Verse 3) Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,
Thy own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside.

(Refrain) Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning, new mercies I see;
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided-
great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me!

Hymn of Faith – “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing”

(Verse 1) Come, thou Fount of every blessing, tune my heart to sing thy grace;
Streams of mercy never ceasing, call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet, sung by flaming tongues above;
Praise his name- I’m fixed upon it- name of God’s redeeming love.

(Verse 2) Here I raise my Ebenezer, hither by Thy help I’ve come;
And I hope, by Thy good pleasure, safely to arrive at home.
Jesus sought me when a stranger, wandering from the fold of God.
He, to rescue me from danger, bought me with his precious blood.
