First Baptist Church will 180 years of worship and service in the name of Jesus this Sunday at 9:30 a.m. this coming Sunday as usual. The Rev. Dr. Gary Reif, Transitional Pastor, will deliver a sermon entitled “It’s a Great Time to be a Pastor”with Ephesians 4:7, 8b, 11-13 and Ezekiel 36:24-28 as the scriptures. Dr. Rod Zambrows will read the Hebrew Bible scripture. The “Preparation for Worship” reading printed at the top of the bulletin is –

“Whenever you enter these doors-how solemn will this reflection be, this is God’s house!  He stoops down from his throne of glory to hold communion with my spirit, and from this hallowed spot my prayer ascends to meet his attentive ear-and to receive his promised answer:  that, amid, those songs of sublime adoration, which rise and swell, and roll-their living notes in that great temple not made with hands-God still listens to the breathings forth of my own spirit in prayer and praise.”  Excerpts from a sermon preached by Rev. Levi Tucker, D.D., (Pastor of the First Regular Baptist Church, Buffalo, N.Y.) at the Dedication of the (First) Baptist Church in Lafayette, IN, on June 9, 1844.  Based on scripture from Ezekiel 11:16 “I will be unto them as a little sanctuary in the countries where they shall come.”
