Tragic Events in Our Nation’s Recent Past

Members of First Baptist Church are heartbroken about the sequence of events that lead to police shooting black men and the subsequent protests sponsored by Black Lives Matter. Yes, Black Lives Matter and it is important that our society find a way for our minority fellow human beings to be fully accepted and regarded without fear and hostility, on the part of some, that lead to needless deaths. The deaths of the black men, the horror of the Orlando Massacre, and the killing of five Dallas policemen following a peaceful demonstration point to the challenge we face as a society to learn to respect the lives of all human beings. We pray that our society will find a way to heal the divisions that separate us.
